For those of you eagerly awaiting updates on the most recent construction site…well, the latest news will surely bring joy to your hearts! First of all, the expected opening date is set for December 17th.

The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalows

Work is progressing for an opening date in December. Below we share details for your first opportunity to book a stay at this new extension to the beloved island-themed resort!! While the exact dates are yet to be announced, anticipation is high for the unveiling of this newest expansion. It’s worth noting that the Island Tower’s concept design harkens back to the original vision for Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Fun Fact: The OG concept designs for Disney’s Polynesian Resort included a prominent tower as the heart of the resort. This expansion highlights the continuity of ideas set forth by Disney Imagineers decades ago.

Storytelling and Island Culture

With Storytelling at the heart Disney’s traditions and this newest section of the resort will be no different. The Island Tower promises to bring to life the spirit of Polynesia. This dedication to storytelling and attention to detail truly sets Disney Resorts apart! We’ve always been impressed by the research the Disney designers have done to ensure the result is respectful as well as meaningful to the heritage it represents.

Your journey starts immediately upon arriving at the Island Tower. The exterior designs pay homage to the culture of the Polynesian Islands with a majestic Manta Ray that represents freedom, protection, and grace. Then, like several other Walt Disney World’s impressive resort lobbies, like the Grand Floridian or the Wilderness Lodge, when you enter the Island Tower Lobby, you’ll find yourself surrounded by stunning artistic showcases, crafted in collaboration with artists from around the world. Suspended from the ceiling are panels depicting wildlife native to the Polynesian Islands, each representing values cherished in Polynesian culture.

Accommodations

The Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Villas and Bungalow will cater to various group sizes ranging from Cozy Duo Studios ideal for 1 or 2 guests, Deluxe Studios perfect for a family of 4, and spacious one- and two-bedroom villas accommodating up to 5 or 9 guests respectively. Additionally, the Island Tower will introduce the category of two-bedroom Penthouse Villas!

The artistic theming continues from the entry lobby and throughout these amazing accommodations. Plus the designers have built in some new features unique from what you’d find in existing DVC rooms. Let’s explore what we mean:

The Studios

The Studios’ theming is inspired by earth in touches such as the lava floral design on the walls, the lava rock-inspired tile backsplash in the kitchenette, and the Moana-inspired artwork over the couch. The Deluxe Studios also features additional seating space with a small booth across from the couch. Then, for the 1st time, even the Deluxe Studio rooms will include a dishwasher! That means, no more plastic flatware and disposable plates! This makes the accommodation feel more elevated and it demonstrates Disney’s commitment to conservation efforts! And speaking of conservation, the rugs and carpets inside guest rooms are made mostly from recycled plastic bottles! What’s also really amazing is that the material’s yarn is said to feel like silk!

One- and Two-Bedroom Villas

Theming for the 1 and 2-bedroom accommodations celebrates the sea. This is noticeable immediately with the stingray piece over the Dining area table. These units feature a kitchen with full-size appliances, a dining area, a washer and dryer, and an outdoor patio. Another nice amenity included with the 1-bedroom accommodations is a 2nd full bathroom! It’s great to see more DVC one-bedroom units including this convenience!

Two-Bedroom Penthouse Villas

Another new type of Disney Vacation Club accommodation in the Island Tower is the introduction of the 2-bedroom Penthouse Villas! These exquisite villas will sleep up to 8 guests and include a spacious living room, as well as stunning views of the Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom Park from a spacious balcony.
